The history of our house
November 19, 1894

Construction begins

On November 19, 1894, the master builder and architect Kasimir Böhner began construction of the house at what is now Henkestraße 28.

Shortly afterwards, the hall and the bandstand were also built.

1898 - 1923

Change of ownership and use

Between 1898 and 1923, the building was expanded.

An additional building for props was added.

During this time, the Erlwein & Schultheiß brewery became the new owner.

After the renovation, the Erlangen Theater occupied the building.

Shortly thereafter, the first restaurants opened there.

During the First World War, the building was used as a military hospital.

This means that wounded soldiers were treated there.

EOS company

From 1923 up to and including 1945, the company EOS used the building for the storage and shipping of its products.

End of the war

Seizure

After the end of World War II, the house was requisitioned by the US Army.

It served as a meeting place and youth center in Erlangen.

In the years that followed, the Zeitner construction company built many new commercial buildings.

More buildings were constructed on Henkestraße until 1954.

1954 - 1964

theater

The Erlangen actors’ association moved into the existing building between 1954 and 1964 and used it again as a theatre.

1968 - 1984

Conversion to a hotel

In 1968, the entrepreneur Otto H. Eck purchased the building.

He converted it into a hotel with 37 rooms and the Löwenbräukeller beer hall.

From 1982 to 1984, the hotel was renovated and modernized.

It was expanded into an international hotel.

Since 1984, the hotel has had 159 rooms.

It also features several rooms for conferences and events, as well as its own restaurant.

July 1, 2007

ÜbernahAcquisition & Modernizationme & Modernisierung

On July 1, 2007, Hotel Bayerischer Hof | B&R Hotelmanagement GmbH & Co. KG took over the hotel and immediately began modernizing the entire accommodation and restaurant area, the rooms, the exterior facade, as well as redesigning the lobby and the outdoor facilities.

September 2010

Change of operator

In September 2010, HV II Hotelverwaltung GmbH, which is part of the Steinkogler company, acquired the hotel.

Spring and Summer 2016

renovation

In the spring and summer of 2016, the lobby, the vaulted courtyard, and the terrace were redesigned and renovated.

That same year, the hotel purchased an additional plot of land.

The hotel is to be expanded there.

2017 - 2018

Overall modernization concept

Planning for a major modernization project began in 2017.

The project’s motto was “Hotel of the Future.”

Construction work started in July and August 2018.

Many rooms were completely renovated and equipped with new technology.
